Extending the Season, Sharing the Harvest: October Updates from the Giving Garden

At KPC Buddhist Relief, our work to alleviate hunger is rooted in direct, hands-on community care. Through the Buddhist Giving Garden—our 3,300-square-foot production space and hoop house in Poolesville, Maryland—volunteers grow fresh, organic produce specifically for local shelters, food banks, and distribution partners. As autumn settles in, the garden is still yielding a bountiful harvest thanks to dedicated seasonal care.

October 4 Harvest: 133 Pounds Delivered to WUMCO Help

Over the weekend of October 4th, garden leads Adam, Maura, and our hard-working volunteers harvested 133 pounds of assorted vegetables, including several varieties of squash, green beans, flat green beans, and fresh okra.

Everything was delivered on Monday to WUMCO Help Inc. for their weekly produce distribution. Executive Director Katie was thrilled to receive the haul and offer it directly to WUMCO’s clients—many of whom work on local farms themselves, yet face economic barriers that make purchasing fresh, organic produce for their families difficult.

Sustained Production Across Regional Partners

The Giving Garden has continued to yield steady harvests through mid-October. Recent harvests of squash, zucchini, okra, green beans, and chard are being distributed across several core community partners:

  • WUMCO Help for ongoing Thursday food distributions.

  • Poolesville Little Free Pantry for direct, 24/7 neighborhood access.

  • Shepherd’s Table in Silver Spring to support hot meal programs.

Through the efforts of our volunteer team and ongoing community support, the Giving Garden continues to turn labor and care into nutritious food for those who need it most.

Through these partnerships and Jetsunma’s continued vision, may there be an end to hunger and suffering in all forms.
