Three Hundred and Forty Four Families

Weekly Produce:

For our donation this week, our team successfully brought over 1,287 lbs of fresh produce to the Hub.

Matthew Woorman, Director of Community Partnerships at the Hub, later wrote to us and said this: "THANK YOU for the great delivery of produce today!! Sorry you guys were not able to stick around to see it all get shipped out the door!! After just an hour and a half, ALL but a few potatoes remained. We were able to distribute all of the produce to 136 families at The Hamptons neighborhood. The Hub remains very grateful for KPC’s support and leadership in the community to make it possible that we serve as many clients as we do."

(Background: just like folks at the Trailer Park, people living in the Hamptons apartment area have gone through financial hardships. Every Thursday, the Hub alternates between these two locations, distributing food. This way, for many of them who have no easy access to transportation, they too get a chance to receive food brought to them by the Hub).

Produce given this week: 150 lbs each of potatoes and onions, 100 lbs each of oranges, apples, pears, bananas, carrots, cabbage, broccoli and tomatoes; 50 lbs jalapeños and 17 stalks of celery.

Monthly Choice Pantry Shopping:

Also, Friday was the last of three days in March when the families qualified to receive free diapers come to the Hub. While picking up the diapers, they can also 'shop’ at the Hub’s Choice Pantry. About 85-90% of the food staples are provided by KPC Buddhist Relief. By the end of Friday, a total of 208 families had come through, receiving 4,062 lbs of food (the average per family is 20 lbs). Again, from Matthew: "We still have the great fortune, with KPC’s support, of serving families at our Choice Pantry."

Just this week ALONE, we know that Buddhist Relief has touched the lives of 344 families through the Upcounty Hub. Yes, three hundred and forty four families. And it’s probably safe to say, at a minimum, it has made a difference to at least a thousand lives?!! (and that’s not even counting lives touched through deliveries to Shepherd’s Table, Poolesville’s Little Free Pantry, and WUMCO the last several days, plus Saturday's food distribution to African Refugees).

Your donations make it possible for Buddhist Relief to positively impact so many lives every week of the year. Please consider donating today to help us help them.
