Deliveries to Poolesville Partners

Due to the upcoming snowstorm, Buddhist Relief made two smaller deliveries to its Poolesville partners, WUMCO and the Poolesville Little Free Pantry, on Monday and Tuesday to ensure that their clients would receive the food they have come to rely on from these food access providers. On Monday, WUMCO was restocked with 222 pounds of food, including milk, cheese, frozen vegetables, maseca, and vegetable oil. The latter two items are ones used often by our Hispanic and Latino neighbors and, prior to our arrival, those shelves had been emptied and are now full.

On Tuesday, volunteers delivered 484 pounds of pantry items, milk, and cheese to the Poolesville Little Free Pantry. With the cold weather and family breakfasts in mind, Sarah had requested a new item - baking mix - another example of how closely our partners listen to those they serve, and how Buddhist Relief works with our partners to provide what they need.

On Wednesday, with the storm behind us and the roads clear, we made our third delivery of produce to both partners. 150 pounds of broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, and oranges were shelved in WUMCO’s refrigerator, ready to be packed in deliveries over the next two weeks. When asked about adding frozen vegetables to the regular produce offerings, Executive Director Katie told us that their clients enjoy the variety, and appreciate the health benefits of frozen veggies versus canned.

We then delivered 327 pounds of produce to the Little Free Pantry. As we worked together to bag the onions, potatoes, apples, oranges, zucchini, and broccoli for distribution, Sarah was delighted that despite the weather, we were still able to provide all of this food for our neighbors in need. She smiled, “Neither snow, nor rain, nor sleet can keep Buddhist Relief from delivering!”
